Early Years: 2004 to present

Tyler Smith’s debut Androcell album was released in 2004.

The album ‘Emotivision’ (Celestial Dragon Records 2004) revealed a sound that combined deep dub bass lines, ethnic sounds, spacey vocal samples, chilled out beats and gentle melodies.

Smith has gone on to release three Androcell albums to date, with the most recent coming in 2010: ‘Entheomythic’  (Celestial Dragon Records 2010).

The album included one Androcell’s most successful tracks to date, the dub influenced ‘Fungus Garden’ which in addition to a sparse break and swirling synth arpeggios, features (as in many other Androcell tracks) a flute melody.

Tyler Smith’s style sits firmly at the Psy-Chill end of the Psychedelic Ambient spectrum, with soft melodies, often on instruments such as flutes and acoustic guitars, keeping a gentle flowing feel, but with deep dubby basses often holding the tracks back from becoming twee.

Tyler Smith is an artist and also works as Art Director for Saiko Sounds.
