'Nothing At All'
(Armada Digital 2009)

Early Years: 2007 to present

Dutchman Boy Hagemann has been producing under the alias Rex Mundi since 2007.  His first production break came when t Robin Albers signed him to his label and let him remix his Jaydee classic ‘Plastic Dreams’.

The house-tinged chilled out sounds of Rex Mundi’s first release ‘Desillusion’ (Cyber Records 2007) have an intricacy that feels more suited to a chill out album than a dance floor. The echo drenched melodic lead drifts in and out above a lower key shuffly house beat but gives little clue to the sound which Rex Mundi would become known for.  By 2008’s ‘Sunrise in Ibiza’ a tougher sound was apparent with the lead melody underpinned by a fierce growling bass riff that was to become a trademark sound.

Rex Mundi’s breakthrough came in 2009 with ‘Nothing At All’ (Armada).  By now Rex Mundi  was signed to Armin van Buuren’s Armada Music group so it is no surprise that ‘Nothing At All’ saw the by now trademark bass sound supporting a female vocal.

Rex Mundi continues to release and remix for Armada, though with most releases appearing on Markus Schulz’s sub label Coldharbour Recordings.  Here Rex Mundi appears to have enough creative freedom to deliver less mainstream, more complex, sometimes techy and often chilled out tracks such as ‘Scorpion’ (2009) and ‘Sandstone’ (2011).  The latter features on Markus Schulz’s ‘Prague 2011’ album.  Though his 2010 track ‘Techanza’ showcases a tougher tech side to his sound.

Rex Mundi has built a solid reputation for an intelligent trance sound that stands out from the mainstream of upfront trance.  Though his profile is modest his support from Armin van Buuren and Markus Schulz coupled with his strong production skills and distinct sound will likely bring him a wider audience over time.
