Early Years: 1995 to present

Lucas van Scheppingen started experimenting with experimenting with electronic music as a child and by 18 had secured his first record deal.

His early influences were many of the original godfathers of House and Techno, including Carl Craig and Todd Terry.

Van Scheppingen’s sound initially had a strong Techno edge to it but by the late 1990’s he had fixed upon the Electro House sound which Laidback Luke would become known for.

Van Scheppingen released the first Laidback Luke studio album in 1999 and three years later followed it up with another, ‘Electronic Satisfaction’ (Virgin 2002).   ‘Electronic Satisfaction’ remains the most recent Laidback Luke studio album, although he has since released various mix compilations.

One of the first tracks to really bring Laidback Luke wider exposure was the Electro House / Rap crossover track ‘Rocking With The Best’ (Virgin 2000).  Laidback Luke’s profile grew year upon year throughout the 2000’s including regular collaborations with top tier House artists such as Steve Angello, Axwell, David Guetta and Sebastian Ingrosso.

In more recent years van Scheppingen has sought to add a more Trancey edge to his tracks – what he terms Trance 2.0 – as seen in his most successful track to date: ‘Turbulence’ (Ultra Records 2011).

Following a relatively low key but hard working late 1990’s Laidback Luke broke through in the 2000’s and is now established in the top tier of House DJs, even though he maintains a harder, slightly less commercial edge to his sound than some of the other big names in contemporary House music.

Lucas van Scheppingen's first experience with dance music production was on his friend's Amiga computer. van Scheppingen was born in Manilla in the Philipines but grew up in the Nertherlands.
