Early Years: 2002 to present

John Dahlbäck comes from a musical family: his mother was a drummer, his mother a single and his cousin Jesper Dahlbäck is also a successful producer and DJ.

John Dahlbäck’s introduction into dance music was via his cousin Jesper Dahlbäck, an established member of the influential Swedish Techno scene.  With the support and guidance of his cousin John Dahlbäck was soon up and running producing and in 2002 had his first single released.

In 2005 Dahlbäck set up Berlin-based Pickadoll Records, a sub label of Plantage 13, home of labels such as Oliver Huntemann’s Confused label. Dahlbäck went onto release most of his singles and studio albums on Pickadoll between 2006 and 2009.

It was during this time that Dahlbäck’s career and profile really began to bloom.  2007 was arguably his most successful year to date with a number of successful tracks that pushed Dahlbäck to the dance mainstream.  One of these was the track ‘Blink’ (DJ Centre Records 2007) with Dahlbäck’s trademark dirty Electro-House sound.

By the end of 2007 Dahlbäck had not only risen out of the shadows of his cousin Jesper but now out-shadowed him.

In 2010 launched a Tech-House label Mutant Records and wasted no time in releasing his first album for the label: ‘Mutants’ (Mutants Records 2010).

Also in 2010 Dahlbäck signed to legendary US House label Defected.

John Dahlbäck quickly outgrew the influence of his cousin Jesper Dahlbäck to become one of the top tier of Swedish DJs and Producers.  Though not quite on the same scale – nor indeed as commercial - as the Swedish House Mafia, Dahlbäck’s combination of underground Electro sounds and mainstream sensibilities continue to ensure him commercial success.
