Early Years: 2002 to present

Jezper Söderlund was born on the 28th August 1980 to a Swedish father and a Finnish mother.  One of the first dance music tracks to make its mark on the young Söderlund was Age Of Love’s seminal track ‘Age Of Love’ in 1995.  Throughout the 1990’s he began to experiment with dance music production before progressing to his first synthesizer in 2000 (a Yamaha CS2x) and Propellerhead’s groundbreaking software ‘Reason’.

It was with these at the centre of his production set up that Söderlund secured his first release ‘Emotion’ under the alias Airbase with the record label Alphabet City.  Whilst he was waiting for ‘Emotion’ to be released he produced the track ‘Genie’ which was duly signed as a follow up release.

Both tracks bear the early hallmarks of Söderlund’s future sound: driving pulsing trance bass and rhythm, epic breakdown and highly melodic lead line.  But of the two tracks it is ‘Genie’ which stands out with a big lead line that is anthemic but also highly distinctive.

‘Genie’ put Söderlund on the trance map and throughout the following years he has sustained a prolific level of output of original releases and remixes using numerous production aliases.  Söderlund’s style is undisputedly trance and throughout the years he has stuck true to the centre of the genre.

This strong trance focus and high quality production skills have kept Söderlund centre stage in the trance scene.  And tracks such as ‘Rise’ (as Mono), ‘Rock’ (as Ozone), ‘Unity Of Earth’ (as The Scarab vs Inzite), ‘Garden State’ and ‘Breathe’ (both as Airbase)have ensured his continued championing by the scene’s key DJs championing his releases, including Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Matt Darey and Above and Beyond (all of whom he has also remixed for).  Söderlund has also remixed Imogen Heap.

Söderlund has additionally released a number of vocal trance tracks, including three with Floria Amber ‘Denial’, ‘Interfere’ and ‘Wonders’.
Söderlund is also an in-demand DJ playing across the globe at events and venues such as Trance Energy, Privelage in Ibiza, the O2 Arena and Passion.

Though Jezper Söderlund’s productions rarely break dramatic new ground, they are consistently of high quality and many stand out as key landmarks in the story of trance during the noughties.  His strong focus on melody with driving rhythms continue to find him strong support among the big name mainstream trance DJs and ensure that he remains an in demand producer.  Mainstream success, however, has so far eluded Söderlund, due in no small part to a relatively low profile DJ career.

Jezper Söderlund is engaged to Jessica Ramboldt who appears as Floria Ambra on various Airbase tracks.  He is also one of three founders of the trance.nu website. Söderlund also has the dubious honour of having received a one word email from Steve Jobs, who’s answer to a question about iPhone to iPad tethering with ‘No’.
