Progressive
Originally a reaction to the increasingly commmercial direction of mainstream house in the late 1990's progressive trance featured a more percussive and less obvious sound. As the noughties developed it edged back towards mainstream trance with a stronger focus on big breakdowns and hooks. In doing so it merged back into the original Progressive Trance genre that had existed since the early-mid nineties which was a less upfront, more complex interpretation of mainstream trance.
