Britop emerged in the early-to-mid 1990’s, swept along by the mini-boom in British Indie artists such as Blur and Oasis. Originally a celebration of a Renaissance in British Alternative music, Britpop soon became a marketing pigeon hole into which a wave of derivative copycat acts were pushed. By the time the ‘Cool Britannia’ banner had been applied the movement was crumbling to its last.
