Early Years: 2004 to present

The Phutureprimitive project emerged out of Rain beginning to incorporate music he’d made in his home studio into his DJ sets in the late nineties.

He released his first album in 2005 – ‘Sub Conscious’ (Waveform Records 2004) – which was both immediately successful and continues to be a top seller for Waveform Records.

Sub Conscious’ included tracks such as ‘Elysium’ and ‘Hyper-Sence’ which reveal complex soundscapes that intertwine multiple genres and influences.  Dark, rolling slow breakbeats and dubby basses underpin spacey vocal snippets and trance tinged instrumentation.

The sound Rain had hit upon fused elements of Breakbeat and Psychedelic Ambient but he soon evolved his sound further.

By the release of his second studio album ‘Kinetik’ (Native Harmonix 2011)  the Phutureprimitive sound was dirtier, with rasping bass lines reminiscent of Drum and Bass, and faster, fiercer breaks.

Rain also transformed the live side of Phutureprimitive, taking a full band on stage including long term vocalist Alyssa Palmer.

Rain’s music as Phutureprimitive is innovative and genre bending.  Sitting somewhere between Breakbeat and Ambient his complex and melodic soundscapes are offset by dark and twisted bass and drums patterns.  Constantly evolving his sound and now incorporating a full live band, expect a big future for Phutureprimitive.

Rain is from Portland, Oergan, and used to play the piano as a child.
