Early Years: 1997 to present

Marcel Woods started DJing in 1990 but his career didn’t really start to take off until the end of the decade.  In 1997 he had his first release – the ‘Driver’ E.P. – and began to gain popularity as a DJ.

What was to become Woods’ defining move was to help pioneer the Tech-Trance sound alongside the likes of fellow Dutch DJs Marco V and Richard Durrand.

While Progressive Trance reacted to the excesses of Mainstream Trance by going more minimal and deeper, Tech-Trance also stripped down the sound but went harder too, though not as hard as Hard Trance.

Tech-Trance hit its peak in the early-to-mid 2000’s and Woods’ 2005 breakthrough track ‘Advanced’ (High Contrast Recordings 2005) is typical of the genre, combining a tough electro lead with a growling bass line and driving beat.

Whereas some Tech-Trance artists have moved more mainstream in recent years, Woods has stuck to his guns, continuing to produce and play tough-edged Tech-Trance.

True to his sound, Woods has not been one to chase the latest thing. And though Marcel Woods might not be on the top tier of Dutch Trance DJs, but he is successful in his own right and more influential than many.
