Pure Ambient

Pure Ambient emerged in the late 1980's as a distinct genre due to the diversification of Ambient as a whole. In the earlier days of Ambient the majority of music made was beatless and often experimental. But with the rise of Electronic Dance Music influenced Ambient such as Ambient House, Ambient music increasingly had beats and distinct melodies and chord progressions. So the term Pure Ambient became used to describe the more experimental, typically beatless end of the Ambient spectrum. Pure Ambient often focuses on sonic textures and soundscapes rather than distinct melodies, chord progressions and song structure.
