Early Years: 2000 to present

Phil Mison started DJing at the Milk Bar in London in 1991 right at the time when dance music was beginning to evolve from raves and Acid House warehouse parties to club culture. The Milk Bar was a small but influential venue during this period.

Whilst playing at the Milk Bar, Mison met legendary Chill Out DJ José Padilla.  The meeting resulted in Mison playing a two year residency at Café del Mar in Ibiza, which in turn boosted his profile and led to numerous other gigs including becoming Leftfield’s tour DJ.

Mison’s experience of playing Chill Out sets at sunset in Ibiza led to him releasing a Chill Out compilation album in 1995: ‘Original Chill Out’. Mison has gone on to release another 12 compilations but in 2000 he started a new creative outlet, his Chill Out production alias Cantoma.

The first Cantoma album was released in 2003 – ‘Cantoma’ (Music For Dreams 2003) – which featured sun drenched Balearic house and Chill Out, with the sounds of Spanish guitars, congas and soft female vocals.

It was another seven years before the follow up album: ‘Out Of Town’ (Leng 2010).

Though Phil Mison has been part of dance music’s Chill Out and Ibiza scenes since the earliest days and has countless compilation albums to his name, he remains relatively unknown outside of Chill Out circles.  His music combines electronic and acoustic instruments together to create highly accessible melodic chill out.

Phil Mison was influenced by listening to legendary chill out DJ Jose Padilla.
